For Instructors: Public Health Requirements for In-Person Classes

What you need to know

Updated May 6: UC Berkeley will no longer require completing the Daily Symptom Screener before entering one of our buildings. Instead, you will be required to self-assess your symptoms each day before coming to class.

To keep you and those around you safe, you must meet the UC COVID-19 vaccine requirements. We are following the same protocol as UC Berkeley and the University of California.

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement

If you have received the vaccine at an off-campus vaccination site, you will need to upload a record of your vaccination and booster to the secure University Health Services’ eTang Portal as soon as you have received your last dose and have a complete vaccination card. Use your Berkeley credentials to log in.

Surveillance Testing

The surveillance testing requirement has been removed for faculty, staff and students who are up-to-date on their COVID-19 vaccines. In order to be considered fully vaccinated, you must have received your primary series of COVID-19 vaccines, the COVID-19 vaccine booster if eligible and the flu vaccine.

Flu Vaccine Requirement

Effective October 8, 2021, a University of California Presidential Executive Order on a flu vaccine mandate for 2021–2022 requires you to get vaccinated against influenza for the flu season (currently August 1, 2021-April 30, 2022). Read more about this policy. You will need to acknowledge that you have received a flu vaccine and the date within the Extension Vaccine Portal.

Masking Requirement

Effective March 7: Per campus policy, masks are not required—though highly encouraged—when indoors for those who are fully vaccinated. In order to be considered fully vaccinated, you must have received your primary series of COVID-19 vaccines, the COVID-19 vaccine booster if eligible and the flu vaccine. If you are teaching an in-person class at one of our partner institutions, please follow the institution’s updated policy, which will be shared with you.

Partner Locations

In addition to adhering to UC Berkeley requirements, you and your students who are meeting at a partner institution may need to fulfill additional requirements.
