UC Berkeley Still Ranked a Top Global University

'U.S. News & World Report' puts Berkeley #1, #4 for 2021

UC Berkeley remains the world’s top public and fourth-best university overall in the latest global rankings by U.S. News & World Report.

As it did last year, Berkeley is fourth among public and private universities; Harvard, MIT and Stanford, and the UK’s University of Oxford round out the top five.

The U.S. News & World Report’s 2021 rankings evaluated 1,500 universities across 86 countries using 13 indicators that include published academic research and global and regional reputation.

On a scale of zero to 100, Berkeley’s global score this year is 89.8. UC Berkeley placed fifth for its global research standing and fourth for its regional research reputation.

Across 31 subject ratings, Berkeley ranks:

  • 1st in chemistry
  • 3rd in biotechnology and applied microbiology, in environment/ecology, in economics and business, in space science and in physics
  • 4th in civil engineering and in plant and animal science
  • 5th in biology and biochemistry and in computer science

Additionally, the university was recently ranked the Number 1 public and Number 2 university in the world for undergraduate programs that produce entrepreneurs who go on to obtain venture funding.
