We will be hosting both remote and in-person activities and events where you can connect with other students in Berkeley Global Programs, explore campus and the Bay Area, and learn more about US culture.

How National & Global Identity Shapes Understanding American Race

Facilitated by expert trainer Ericka Acquaah-Arhin, explore questions of national & global identity while delving into the terminology and cultural understanding of Race in the United States. An excellent introductory workshop for those curious about these issues.

Student Panel: Adapting to the US Education Style

Tuesday, August 17 | 9-10 AM PDT | Remote

Are you familiar with and prepared for the US Higher Education style? For example, there are many assignments and exams throughout the semester, lots of group work and collaboration, discussion and questions are encouraged in class, and more!

Join this panel of recent alumni and continuing students from all different Berkeley Global programs who will share their advice and experiences in the US classroom. It takes some adjustment, but with this panel to prepare you, you will be ready to succeed in your classes this semester.

Global Happy Hour: California Slang

Thursday, August 19 | 5-6 PM PDT | Remote

Grab your favorite beverage and log on, because not only will you have a chance to meet students from all Berkeley Global students, we're also going to be talking California slang. Have you heard it? Have you not? What words have confused you?

Learn how you can tell whether someone is from NorCal or SoCal based on what they call freeways and why you should not say "hella" in SoCal or say "San Fran" or "Cali"... ever.

San Francisco Scavenger Hunt

Saturday, August 21 | 10 AM-2 PM PDT | In-Person

Are you ready to explore San Francisco? Pick up a scavenger hunt sheet, hop on BART, and get ready to explore! We'll have lots of challenges that will take you all over the city. We'll pair you with a group of 6 new friends the day of the event. The winners will get a prize!

Please note: If you are unvaccinated against COVID-19 you are required to self-sequester for 7 days after your arrival to the US according to UC Berkeley guidelines. Please do not attend this event if it is still during your 7-day self-sequester period. Monday, August 23 | 4-6 PM PDT | In-Person

Get ready to get to know campus like the back of your hand! We'll pair you with a group of 6 new friends to figure out the clues and discover all the best spots on campus. Pick up your scavenger hunt sheet and you're on your way! The winners will get a prize!

August 29th| 10 AM to 4 PM | In-Person at the RSF

Hosted by Campus Recreation, come to the Residential Sports Facility (RSF) anytime (no registration needed) to get free stuff and meet vendors. Learn more here!

Berkeley Global Challenge

Take your experience with Berkeley Global to the next level with the Berkeley Global Challenge! Take the Challenge to connect with your classmates, get creative, reflect on your experience, and make the most of your time at Berkeley Global! And did we mention there are prizes?

You get points for completing challenges and bonus points for commenting on others' submissions as well. At the end of the semester, qualify for BIG prizes (like a $300 Amazon gift card or $300 worth of Berkeley clothing & swag) based on your points! We will enter your name in a drawing for prizes if you qualify.

Meditation Mondays, 12-12:15 pm (Pacific Time)

Join us in Zoom to take a brief 15-minute break from your day to practice breathing techniques, mindfulness and meditation to help you cope with daily stressors and build mental resilience. Email extension-intl@berkeley.edu to be added to the Zoom link!


English Conversation Tables, Wednesdays 5-6 PM (Pacific Time)

Come chat with visiting and degree-seeking students at English Conversation Tables! Hosted by the Berkeley International Office, join them every Wednesday from 5-6 p.m. PDT.

English Conversation Tables focuses on slang, figures of speech, and idiomatic phrases. Have questions about something you saw on TV or heard in conversation? Come bring any questions you might have or just stop by to chat with BIO staff and other students.
