Upcoming International Student Services' Virtual Events

Check out all of the ways you can stay connected with us and your fellow students

As recommended by campus, we are cancelling our in-person student activities. Instead, we will have several ways to connect virtually throughout the period when classes are all remote.

This is a unique situation that may feel stressful and confusing. During this time, it’s even more important that you remain engaged with your community. Continue to form study groups (even if it's at home or online), message and chat with your friends and family, make phone and video chat appointments with your professors and advisers, and participate in our virtual activities!

ISS will be offering multiple virtual opportunities for you to continue to engage, connect and take advantage of your time with Berkeley. Most will take place in our UC Berkeley Global Discord Server, which you can join here.

Below are some virtual activities we are hosting. We will update this information as more details are finalized and events are added.

Upcoming Virtual Activities

Check Out Our Discord Server

Join our Discord server every day to chat about different topics and connect about how we’re feeling. You can chat in the Discord at any time. Discord has text and voice chats and is a great way to connect with each other virtually! There are channels on different topics and you can stream games together, do crafts, or whatever you want!

1. Meditation Mondays, 12:00-12:30 pm

2. Yoga Wednesdays from 6:00-6:30 pm

Join us in Zoom for a 20 minute yoga break to start off your evening! After sitting and studying all day take a moment to stretch it out! Register here for the link.

3. Virtual Study Hall, Fridays, 6:00-10:00 pm

Every Friday we will have virtual study halls through Zoom. You can join and leave it running in the background--just like studying in a coffee shop, where you are quiet but occasionally can ask a question or share some information with each other. If you're wondering how other students are handling a certain class, have a homework question, or just want a study partner, join the virtual study hall! We will sort participants into breakout rooms so you can study with students in the same major or classes. Register here for the Zoom link!

What is Discord?

Discord is a mobile app, web app and desktop app where you can join chat rooms (called “servers”) to chat with people! Originally created for gaming, it’s now used for all kinds of groups, including us!

The server has multiple “channels,” which are smaller chats about more specific topics than the general one. You can join any channel or create a new one.

One cool thing about Discord is that there is a voice channel! Just hold down the “Q” key to talk to whoever is in the chat when you are in the voice channel.
