In the ever-changing workplace, leaders with expertise in diversity, equity and inclusion are now more important than ever. For this event, we speak with David Kim, VP Global Diversity Equity Inclusion at Zendesk

Moderators Frederick Wehrle, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at UC Berkeley Extension, and Jill Finlayson, Director of the EDGE in Tech Initiative at UC, will explore with David his career progression, key diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives at Zendesk, as well as lessons learned that he can pass on to other companies.

As Vice President, Global Diversity Equity Inclusion at Zendesk—a service-first CRM company that builds software designed to improve customer relationships—David is responsible for driving a people-first strategy where “You Be You” and “Together We Are Stronger” are more than tag lines. "It’s about all of of our people knowing that they are valued wherever they are in the world. We do this through empathy, relationships and a word we created called Humblident (combines humble and confident) so that we can be allies for each other and learn from each other," David explains.

Prior to Zendesk, David led Inclusion and Diversity at Gilead Sciences, Electronic Arts and Dell Inc. Prior to those roles, David also learned through experiences at 3Com/Palm, Cadence Design Systems, Price Waterhouse and UPS. He is honored and humbled to have served on the Board of Directors of APAICS (Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies), the Board of Directors of The Center for Child Protection and partnered closely with the UN HeForShe Champions. David believes in a data-driven, results-oriented approach and systemic change is an impossibility if you tackle it alone. We are stronger together and inclusion is a team sport leaving no group on the sidelines.
