Whether you are renting a furnished or unfurnished apartment, there are probably household items you need.

Check out the stores listed below! We do not endorse any of the following companies but offer them for informational purposes only.

Furniture

 

New:

  • Ikea $: Various types of furniture and household items that are low cost. You can have it delivered and pay extra to have it assembled.
  • Walmart $: Order online or in person. Not as high quality nor as wide a selection as Ikea, but very cheap furniture.
  • Ashley Home Store $-$$: Many home furniture items, located in neighboring community Emeryville.
  • Target $-$$: Order online or in person. Not as wide a selection as Ikea, but sells some furniture and household items.
  • Amazon $-$$: You can order pretty much anything and have it shipped in two days via Amazon Prime. Students are eligible for 6 months of free Amazon Prime.
  • Wayfair $$: Order furniture delivered. It’s subsidiary companies are AllModern, Joss & Main, Birch Lane and Perigold (also online).
  • Crate & Barrel $$$: Designer home furnishings store, high quality and expensive.
  • West Elm $$$: Designer home furnishings store, high quality and expensive.

Used:

  • Goodwill $: Furniture, kitchenware, other household items and clothing can be found by doing some searching.
  • Craigslist $: Search for used furniture and other household items. Tips: 1. Never send anyone money without seeing the item; 2. Meet in public places; 3. Bring people with you if you can, to stay safe.
  • Facebook marketplace $: Resold items. Tips: 1. Never send anyone money without seeing the item; 2. Meet in public places; 3. Bring people with you if you can, to stay safe.
  • Letgo App $: Similar to Craigslist and Facebook, people resell their items on this app. Tips: 1. Never send anyone money without seeing the item; 2. Meet in public places; 3. Bring people with you if you can, to stay safe.

Household Supplies

  • Walmart $: Similar to Target, Walmart has it all! It is further from campus and much cheaper than Target, but slightly lower quality.
  • CVS $: Cleaning supplies, groceries, pharmacy, decorations
  • Walgreens $: Cleaning supplies, groceries, pharmacy, decorations
  • Ikea $: Furniture, kitchenware and other household items
  • Michaels $-$$: Decorations and crafting supplies
  • Jo-Ann’s Fabrics $-$$: Decorations and crafting supplies
  • Amazon $-$$: Order pretty much anything and have it shipped in two days via Amazon Prime. Students are eligible for 6 months of free Amazon Prime.
  • Target $$: Clothing, furniture, kitchenware, groceries, cleaning supplies, other household items. Target has it all!
  • Bed, Bath & Beyond $$: Household items, bedding and linens.

Many of these websites also offer delivery.

Renting Furniture

Renting furniture is also an option for a short stay and if you want nicer-quality furniture and have a bigger budget, or want the convenience of rental packages.
